Moment of Glory — China’s Moment at the "Brain-Computer Interface × Medical Insurance" Competition

Co-hosted by the National Healthcare Security Administration and the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province, the competition, themed “Mind to Reality, Interface to the Future”, serves as a key initiative to implement national arrangements for the development of the brain-computer interface industry.

The competition features six task-based competitive tracks (brain-controlled drones, brain-powered motor wheelchairs, brain-controlled robotic arms, brain-controlled quadruped robots, brain-controlled typing, and virtual tasks) and two scenario application tracks (health monitoring & early warning, functional rehabilitation & smart care). Puzhuo Medical signed up for and won the First Prize in the Functional Rehabilitation and Smart Care (Track 8-2), the track most closely aligned with clinical scenarios.

Launched in June this year, the competition attracted 415 registered teams from 22 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities across China, as well as countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and Singapore, together with Hong Kong and Macao of China. After the preliminary selection, 251 projects advanced to the final to compete across 9 tracks covering task-based challenges and scenario applications. The contest focused on multiple areas such as health monitoring and early warning, functional rehabilitation and smart care. World-leading brain-computer interface teams competed on the same stage, making the event highly competitive.

Project Overview — Brain-Computer Interface Enhanced Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation System

This project competes in Track 8-2, Functional Rehabilitation and Smart Care Scenario Application Competition. It focuses on the scenario-based application of non-invasive brain-computer interfaces in precision diagnosis and treatment of emotional disorders, brain disease rehabilitation and long-term care.

Technical Principle

Brain-computer interface (BCI) is used to collect and decode EEG features in real time. Combined with precise neuromodulation technology of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), it forms an integrated closed-loop regulation system of "perception – assessment – intervention". The system can adaptively adjust stimulation parameters according to an individual’s EEG status to deliver targeted, precise and personalized neuromodulation.

Application Scenarios

Centered on three major areas: auxiliary diagnosis and treatment of emotional disorders, assisted rehabilitation of brain diseases, and long-term care, the solution covers diverse operating environments including medical institutions, community rehabilitation, and home-based settings.

Innovations

Compared with traditional single-point modulation schemes, this project organically integrates real-time EEG decoding and precise magnetic field intervention, improving the targeting capability and personalization level of intervention. It offers a new engineering pathway for brain disease rehabilitation and care.

Authoritative Background — Aligning with National Medical Insurance Policy Directions

The competition fully embodies the clear vision of national healthcare authorities: leverage medical insurance scenarios to drive technology implementation and empower industrial development.

Review of healthcare-enabled progress in recent years:

March 2025: The National Healthcare Security Administration launched preliminary projects for neurological medical service items and clarified corresponding pricing policies;

September of the same year: Solicitation of ideas for coding innovative medical consumables;

March 2026: After the world’s first brain-computer interface product obtained approval, the Administration completed medical insurance coding within two days.

This competition continues and advances this strategic approach.

Zhejiang, the host province, has taken the lead in including the non-invasive brain-computer interface adaptation fee under medical insurance reimbursement, promoting dual-wheel propulsion of clinical practice and medical insurance. As Fu Chaoqi, Director of the Big Data Center of the National Healthcare Security Administration, stated at a press conference, the competition strives to build a fast-track for R&D and commercialization of new technologies, new methods and new products: proof-of-concept — medical insurance project initiation — medical insurance evaluation — medical insurance reimbursement.

Enterprise Outlook — Bringing Cutting-edge Neuromodulation Technology to Every Household

Puzhuo Medical has long focused on the non-invasive neuromodulation sector, committed to translating advanced neuroscience technologies into clinically viable and publicly accessible medical products. The company’s core products such as the home-use transcranial electrical stimulator TD P100 have accumulated substantial practical data and user bases in clinical rehabilitation and neurological function improvement.

The entry in this competition represents the company’s latest achievement transformation in brain-computer interface plus transcranial magnetic stimulation. The company has built an interdisciplinary R&D team covering neuroscience, biomedical engineering, clinical medicine and AI algorithms. It maintains long-term partnerships with multiple Grade A tertiary hospitals and universities, continuously advancing products from engineering prototypes to real clinical settings.

This award is not an end, but a new starting point.

Taking this competition as an opportunity, Puzhuo Medical will keep promoting the clinical validation, product finalization and large-scale application of the Brain-Computer Interface Enhanced Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation System. It aims to bring neuromodulation technology out of laboratories, into medical institutions and thousands of families, contributing to the development of Healthy China and Digital China initiatives.
